It's a lie, a craven and treacherous lie, that the "generative #AI" people are selling, and yet...TO THIS [expletive deleted] DAY, U.S. business and technology #journalism (qq.v. @arstechnica, @forbes, etc.) generally permits the tech execs to tell their lies and sling their deceptive buzzwords without challenge.There's some honest reportage out there of course, I've read some of it, but the prevailing attitude of U.S. media towards genAI is uncritical, apparently uninterested in the truth about how LLMs function and what's actually going on under the surface—they don't even want to acknowledge that LLMs have no ability to reason and therefore can't be trusted not to confabulate.(cont'd)
