Proton VPN launches official Snap package for Linux

Proton VPN has launched its first official Snap package, making the VPN available on Linux distributions that support Snap, including Ubuntu. The release replaces the previous community-maintained Snap fork with an official Proton package, now available on Snapcraft as proton-vpn. The Snap package gives compatible Linux users a simpler one-click installation option, although Proton warns that users on distributions older than Ubuntu 24 may run into connection issues with this first version. Some features are not included at launch. Split tunneling is unavailable due to sandboxing limitations, similar to Proton VPN’s Flatpak package, while the Stealth protocol and ARM support are also missing for now. The company says it hopes to address some of these limitations in future updates and may revisit ARM support if demand grows.
