OpenAI has announced major updates to Codex, its platform for AI-assisted coding, starting with the integration of full Codex functionality directly into the main ChatGPT app, removing the need for a separate Codex platform, while expanding Codex beyond developers into enterprise workflows such as research, document creation, dashboards, prototypes, and internal tools. OpenAI says knowledge workers now represent about 20% of Codex users, with adoption growing three times faster than among developers. The company also introduced Agent Plugins, which connect Codex with role-specific apps, context, instructions, and workflows. Six plugins are launching first, covering data analytics, creative production, sales, product design, public equity investing, and investment banking. Together, they support 62 apps and 110 skills, with options for organizations to customize them for internal workflows.
